Okay. So. This may seem weird. But my friend and I saw this on Johns blog and started talking about it.
And it raised some questions
That being.. do you like John Ks current work? What parts of it do you like?
I ask this as me and my friend rant about him a lot.. Well we bitch more than anything. And I've found a lot of people have found dislike his current work (as its becoming so abstract etc).. So that's why I ask. Id like to hear your opinion on his current stuff, because it seems you are a fan. Personally, I don't hate his work, I mean.. It's not to my completely to my liking either. But I'd like to hear a more positive opinion because everyone always just says hes an arrogant twat and It'd becoming a bit tiresome.
Anyway, good job on the drawing. I like how you shade its very clean and smooth. It's hard pain to get flash to look that good, I assume that's what you used anyway. So great work!
John's current work is usually bumpers and commercials and so-on. I think he's taking advantage of these small products to experiment with style, which is a good thing more than anything. Some say it's too abstract and you can't tell what's going on, but to me that's what makes animation great. I like it when an animation warrants 3 more viewings so that you can let it all soak in. If John were to do another show, I doubt it would look like his current work. They're just experiments, I wouldn't hold them against him. APC wasn't too crazy looking.
You have a point there I guess. However I'm pretty sure i saw in a much older post that he had hopes of making some of those shorts into a pilot. However I could be wrong, can't find the post now. I certainly would worry if he did, it would struggle to find an audience. It's good to see someone experiment but i think most people have a problem with the fact that his style often goes against the grain of what he preaches. Tbh, I respect him for his knowledge. Without his blog who knows where I would be now, there would be a lot of stuff it would have taken me longer to find without his blog. It's great for eye candy, and learning to draw better cartoons, but I can't honestly dig how his style has evolved. All boils down to personal taste I guess. I'm just glad you're not one of those fans who thinks he's a cartoon god or something.
